✂ This is your A4 sheet. The cut line separates message and key.

Paste the secret text, pick the code, read

The decoder uses the same rules as the generator, only in reverse. Paste the secret text above, choose the cipher, and the plain message appears immediately. In the settings, set shift, offset or separator the way they were used for encoding.

Which code is it?

  • Only numbers with dashes, dots or spaces, words separated by a slash: number code. If the largest number is above 26, an offset was used.
  • Dots and dashes: Morse code. A slash separates words.
  • Normal letters but no meaning: Caesar or backwards writing. For Caesar, walk through the slider until words appear – there are only 25 options.
  • Pictures or grid signs: symbol cipher. Symbols cannot be typed; pick the code and set, and the sheet shows the key to look up.
  • Reversed: mirror writing. A mirror helps faster than any computer.

Unknown characters

Characters the chosen code does not know stay unchanged and are highlighted in yellow. So you see at once whether you picked the right code or there is a typo in the secret text.

Print the solution

The sheet can be printed in decoder mode too – with the decoded message on top and the key below. Handy when the solution of a treasure hunt should be documented.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

I don’t know which code was used. What now?

Only numbers with separators: number code. Dots and dashes: Morse. Normal letters without meaning: Caesar or backwards – try both, the shift slider walks through all 25 options.

Can the decoder read symbol ciphers?

Symbols cannot be typed. Choose the symbol code and your set, and the sheet shows the key to look up.

What happens to characters the code does not know?

They stay unchanged and are highlighted in yellow so nothing disappears silently.
