A true mirror image
Mirror writing is writing you can only read in a mirror: every letter is reversed and the line runs from right to left. The generator really mirrors the lettering – it does not use look-alike characters from foreign alphabets, which often print wrongly. So mirror writing prints cleanly on any printer.
Horizontal or vertical
The default is horizontal mirroring (left ↔ right), like writing in front of a mirror on the wall. The vertical variant (top ↕ bottom) turns the letters upside down – the mirror then lies flat under the sheet. Both can be chosen in the settings.
How to read mirror writing
- Stand a hand mirror upright next to the text and look at the reflection.
- Turn the sheet over and hold it against a window – the writing shows through.
- With a little practice: just read it. Many children can do this surprisingly quickly.
No key needed
Unlike symbols or number code there is no table here. Instead, the sheet shows a hint below the cut line on how to make the text readable. For a harder puzzle, combine mirror writing with the Caesar code: shift first, then mirror.
